30 Day Challenge

Hey Beauties!

I've had a looong day at college, but just had a look through some of your new blog entries, and saw this on Lauren's blog, so thought I'd have a go!

Day 01 – A recent picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

This picture is of me (on the right), with Marlis at her party; it was both of our birthdays! I may have been a little drunk...
Now, some facts. Hmmm:
  1. I'm fairly flexible. In fact, I can hold my nose with my toes, but I'm not sure that's something to be proud of!
  2. I was in a Radio 4 play when I was 9.
  3. I have two older brothers. One of them lives in Borneo atm.
  4. I am a quarter Polish, quarter Irish, and half English.
  5. I ADORE scary movies. One of my favourites is Braindead, which is also hilarious!
  6. I speak a bit of Russian, Italian, Spanish, and French, and studied Ancient Greek and Latin at school 8-).
  7. I still can't face eating lamb, because of my childhood toy lamb, Lambie... I'm now 21 :s.
  8. I started boarding school at the age of 7. May explain a few things.
  9. I volunteered at Oxfam for 2 years, and now volunteer at a primary school. I love volunteering!
  10. I am completely prepared to make a fool of myself all the time. When people ask "what's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done?", it takes me a while to answer. There are many to choose from.
  11. Apparently I was born with a small, healed spina bifida. Scary stuff.
  12. I love baths, and don't think that's anything unusual for a girl, but give me a book and a bottle of wine, and I can happily spend 3 hours in there...
  13. I can't really ride a bike. Last time I tried, I took all the skin off my left shin.
  14. I directed a school play when I was 17. It was appaling!
  15. I have a filthy mind. Someone once said "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!" So true.
Didn't think I'd be able to come up with 15 things! I'm really actually very boring. But anyways, that's done. Coming tomorrow:
Day 02 – The meaning behind your Blog name

Hope y'all had a good day!

Amazing Chocolatey Goodness

Hey Beauties!

So, this isn't beauty related (as far as I'm aware), but I thought I'd share with you this fabulous brownie recipe. I found it in a cookbook called Chocolate (Parragon, 2002) many many years ago and have been cooking them ever since! They're easy, gooey, taste divine, and are just as good fresh from the oven with some vanilla ice cream as they are after a few days.

Sticky Chocolate Brownies
Makes 12

100g butter
175g caster sugar
75g dark muscavado sugar
125g dark chocolate (really recommend Green & Black's Maya Gold)
1tbsp golden syrup
2 eggs
1tsp vanilla extract
100g plain flour
2tbsp cocoa powder
1/2tsp baking powder
  1. Melt the butter, sugars, chocolate and syrup together in a saucepan over a medium heat, stirring regularly, until smooth and blended. Set aside to cool a bit.
  2. While that mixture is cooling, crack the eggs into a bowl and beat well with the vanilla essence. Then stir in the chocolate goo until glossy.
  3. Sieve in the rest of the ingredients and fold into the mixture (I usually do it in 3 stages to make sure everything is nicely blended)
  4. Pour into a small lined cake tin, and pop in a pre-heated oven for about 25 minutes at 180oC.
I was thinking of these because my brother asked me to make him a batch, and I'm a bit hungover from last night, so chocolate was a great idea! My friend Lindsey did an Oxjam gig (turns out she's amazing), but definitely needed today to recover before college!

More on the weekend and my make-up another time,
Lots of Love

My First Entry...

Well Beauties here goes!

I've decided to join the blogosphere after reading all my fellow more! Beauty Hot 100er's lovely blogs, and getting really jealous! To be honest, I'm not sure I'll have much time to regularly update this, between college and volunteering at school etc, but I promise I'll try my hardest ;). And I may as well start now...

O.P.I Nail Lacquers - The Muppets Glitter Collection

Yep, that's right, Muppets nail varnish! But now in partnership with the sophistication of O.P.I so it's not too primary school (is it?!). I have to say that I bought this set on eBay, and wasn't actually aware of such a collaboration until I stumbled across it whilst looking for other nail goodies. However, I was instantly drawn to it, obvs by the Muppet element (life-long fan girl!) and the fantastic range of colours!

O.P.I is renowned for their cute and clever product names, and this range does not disappoint, with:
  • Gettin' Miss Piggy With It - a vibrant red glitter with larger specks of silver
  • Excuse Moi! - a brilliant tutti-frutti pink loaded with multi-coloured glitter
  • Divine Swine - lush purple glitter also with larger specks of silver (am I right in thinking this is mosaic effect?)
  • Gone Gonzo - Light, sky blue and silver glitter
  • Fresh Frog of Bel Air - glittery Kermit green, pepped up with silver
And finally, the reason I wanted these polishes in the first place -
  • Rainbow Connection - this looks amazing in the bottle; literally a rainbow of glitter, mixed in with the collection's standard silver specks.
When the package arrived, I tore it open instantly to drool over my new goodies, and couldn't resist doing tester nails. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of these as my phone recently died (lost at sea/in the bath), but if any readers are interested in one in the future, please comment! Anyway, after testing, Excuse Moi! emerged as the new favourite, as it is the only one with coloured varnish; the rest are glitter suspended in a clear polish, which can make it hard to get good coverage. The big disappointment was Rainbow Connection, as the glitter was even more patchy than the other shades. So, all in all, I think these would best used as top-coats, and although they're lovely, I'm glad I didn't spend full price on them.

Whew! Done. Please feel free to comment, I'll take all the pointers I can get! :)

Loads of love
